Visiting a Life Group
Want to stick your toe in the water and just see what Life Groups are about without committing to anything? Great! Here are the five steps:
1. Pick a Group
Take a look at our list of Life Groups. You’ll notice that they are clustered by geographical arrangement. Your best bet is to find your zip code on this list and choose a group within your region, or “Home Team.” There are usually between one and three Life Groups in a single “Home Team.”
2. Contact Someone
There is a phone number of one of the group members on the list of Life Groups. It’s a good idea to let someone know you’re coming to their next meeting. Sometimes groups take the week off, sometimes they meet in different places, you’ll want to know this. Also, you might want to get directions and find out what to bring. If you have kids, you should definitely let this person know you’ll be bringing them, so they can make sure arrangements are made.
3. Get Some Food (optional)
You don’t have to bring anything when you’re a guest. That’s the definition of the word guest. But if you just really want to bring some of your grandmother’s famous baked lemon custard cheesecake brownie squares, your dad’s famous walnut-fennel meat loaf soup, or your own famous bag of Cheetos from HEB, the group will love it.
4. Show Up
It’s 95% of success after all. (How did they measure that?)
5. Relax and Be You
Life Groups are all about real relationships, emphasis on real. We just want to get to know you for who you are. Don’t feel like you have to be Charlie Church or Billy Bible (unless that really is your name - if so, no offense intended Billy). We all have questions and problems and struggles and sins, we’re all trying to understand ourselves and God better. Be yourself, and we’ll be ourselves too.
