Downtown
When you’re situated between the UT Tower and the Capitol Dome, vocation has everything to do with location.  For nearly 160 years, the University Avenue church has been firmly established in downtown Austin.  It’s our neighborhood.  We know we’re bucking the trend of downtown churches that are moving to the suburbs, but we’re committed to seeking the heart of God in the heart of this great city.

To remain an active, vibrant force in this community means that we can’t “do church” the way we have in the past.  In particular, we are committed to the values of partnering with other churches and other Christians to “go out” and do God’s work in the city.  Here are some of those works.

Micah 6
Micah 6 is a cooperative effort of the university churches that began several years ago to address the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the under-resourced in Austin.  In addition to serving those in need, this effort also promotes unity and cooperation among the university churches.

Christian Service Center
For over 30 years the CSC has been addressing the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of those who are struggling to survive in this city.  Known throughout the county for responding to more requests than any other non-profit group, the CSC continues to bring hope to those on the margins of life.

Homeless Breakfast
Every Wednesday morning for over 25 years a committed crew of Christians has gathered to prepare and serve a hot, nutritious breakfast to over 130 men and women who are homeless in this city.  This devoted group, comprised of students and teachers, business people and retirees, is living out their faith in service to others.

We’ve only just begun to seize the opportunities for service in this great city!  Over the last year, we have been praying that our eyes would be opened and our hearts expanded to embrace a broader vision for bringing God’s love and mercy to others in need.  One of those dreams is to open our facilities to become a “24/7” center of mission, partnering with other Christian service groups who share our vision of God’s work in this city in a spirit of cooperation rather than competition.  We believe that God is already at work in the city of Austin and we want to share in that work.
